Marine Mammal Specialist; experience with MMA & ESA - 

Biologist – Marine Mammal Specialist:  Ecology and Environment, Inc. is a fully integrated environmental consulting firm whose underlying philosophy is its worldwide commitment to supporting sustainable development through responsible environmental stewardship.  We are seeking a Marine Mammal Specialist for one of our offices in Seattle, WA, Virginia Beach, VA or Arlington, VA. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring permitting compliance under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, specifically in securing Letters of Authorizations and/or Incidental Harassment Authorizations
  • Conducting field work and research on the biology, habitats, behavior, and status of marine mammal species and populations
  • Authoring peer-reviewed scientific papers based on field work and research
  • Assessing anthropogenic impacts on marine mammal populations including acoustic effects, vessel interactions, harassment, and cumulative impacts
  • Interacting with regulatory, consulting, and industry organizations on marine mammal issues

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology, Marine Biology, Marine Science or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in marine research, impact assessment and/or resource management
  • Experience working in the field with marine mammal species and habitats
  • Experience working on issues related to the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act
  • Ability to author marine mammal reports and provide expert witness as needed
  • Ability to communicate with commercial and recreational fishermen and other stakeholders that may affect or have interests in marine mammal conservation
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
