Context: The Sierra Club is the nation's leader in grassroots environmental litigation, with a legal record that has made it a major force to be reckoned with by government officials and industry alike. Law treatises are filled with watershed decisions won by the Sierra Club, and we annually file over 125 new cases.

The Sierra Club is leading the charge to stem global warming and to promote cleaner, sustainable energy choices through its Beyond Coal and Clean Energy Solutions Campaigns. These campaigns aim to move our economy toward a clean energy future by stopping new coal-fired plants, phasing out existing plants, promoting clean energy alternatives, and keeping the massive U.S. coal reserves in the ground and out of international markets. They are part of six strategic initiatives that comprise the Sierra Club's Climate Recovery Partnership. Together, these initiatives form a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing America's carbon emissions while strengthening our habitats and communities to respond to changes already set in motion by past greenhouse gas pollution.
