PML is known for delivering impactful and award-winning marine science, from the poles to the tropics, and from lakes to the open ocean. Air-Sea Exchange research is a highly successful part of the Marine Biogeochemistry and Observations team at PML. We are seeking a motivated research scientist with a background in atmospheric and/or ocean sciences to be a key part of the team delivering cutting-edge science. The successful applicant will have the exciting opportunity to participate in groundbreaking field and laboratory experiments that will help improve our understanding of air-sea exchange and how the ocean influences atmospheric chemistry, aerosols, and climate. The role involves the generation and analysis of data collected with state-of-the-art modern instrumentation (e.g. time-of-flight mass spectrometry). You will process the large volumes of data using computer code, statistically interrogate and make sense of the results to gain novel understanding. You will be encouraged to disseminate your findings, presenting at international conferences, and lead the writing of high impact papers. Any necessary training will be provided and you will benefit from working alongside colleagues who are world-leading in this research area. There will be multiple opportunities for field-going expeditions, ranging from the local Plymouth Sound to remote parts of the world ocean, therefore the applicant will need to be able to pass the ENG1 medical for seagoing activities. This open-ended post is available immediately. You will be joining a vibrant organisation and enjoy the full benefits, career development opportunities, and support that are provided.
