Directory Entry : Founded in 1967 as the Environmental Defense Fund, we tackle the most serious environmental problem...a scrappy group of scientists and a lawyer on Long Island, New York, fighting to save osprey from the toxic pesticide DDT. Using scientific evidence, our founders got DDT banned nationwide. Today, we’re one of the world's leading environmental organizations. In the U.S., Fortune magazine called our board one of the country's most influential nonprofit boards. You can see the jobs of the EDF on their website.

Description

With world attention focused on building both a strong economy and a healthy environment, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is where policymakers and leaders from business and civil society turn for win-win solutions. For decades EDF has leveraged its economic, scientific and political expertise to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, China, and around the world. With its growing economy and population and rising global influence, India has become central to meeting these global challenges.

EDF operates in over 20 countries around the world, with a track record of using rigorous science and economics, spanning political divides, mobilizing public support, and catalyzing innovation and investments to create solutions that are practical and implementable today. The goal of EDF’s Energy Program is to bend the curve on greenhouse gas emissions from oil and gas production and use by 2030, while meeting the world's energy needs cleanly and equitably. We are achieving this through a defined set of objectives targeted at 1) reducing emissions from oil and gas production, delivery, and use, and 2) reducing demand for oil and gas in power generation, transportation, buildings, and industry. To achieve our goal, we seek reforms in law, regulation, and/or business practice through a set of strategic corporate partnerships, direct engagement with policymakers, and mobilizing investor and public sentiment in favor of change. In achieving our objectives, we facilitate cutting-edge science, technical innovation, and rigorous economic and financial analysis to develop durable solutions.

EDF now seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and expert leader to join the Energy Program's leadership team, responsible for developing and implementing multidisciplinary, cross programmatic, international strategies and teams to advance a global energy transition to achieve a net zero carbon economy by 2050. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Energy, the AVP, Global Energy will make decisions and establish objectives for the overall direction of the Energy program as it relates to global oil and gas.

The right candidate will be a results-oriented, self-starter who appreciates and embraces diverse cultures and perspectives; have substantial experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management across a diverse set of constituencies and perspectives; bring deep expertise in global energy and environmental policies; and demonstrate exceptional political instincts coupled with substantial knowledge of international policy, politics and the social dynamics of relevant international institutions. A priority for the AVP, Global Energy will be refining and implementing a global strategy to achieve EDF's goal of cutting global oil and gas methane emissions by 45% by 2025 and setting a path to a 75% reduction by 2030. Through sound and effective management of multidisciplinary, cross-programmatic teams as well as partnerships with external stakeholders, the AVP is tasked with planning and implementing initiatives to drive companies and countries to implement practices and policies needed to reduce methane emissions, leveraging EDF's coordinated scientific research.  Additionally, they will build and manage coalitions and campaigns in Europe, China, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas and will engage key stakeholder groups, policymakers and international institutions, such as the UN, the International Energy Agency, and the World Bank.
