Description

UNEP-WCMC strives for a sustainable world for biodiversity and people. Through our work we aim to inspire and empower decision makers to manage biodiversity and ecosystem services for people and the planet. In 2020, decision makers from around the world will gather in Beijing at the UN Biodiversity Conference to decide on goals for the natural world for the next decade. As such, this is a critical – and exciting – time to work in conservation and sustainable development.

This fixed-term position is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced team at an exciting time and contribute to our work confronting the challenges faced by our world’s biodiversity. If you’re a recent graduate, this role is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills, work for a world-class organisation and play a key role in generating a step-change in our communications.

We’re looking for a creative, confident and proactive individual to join our busy Development team for 3 months. We work with colleagues across the Centre to magnify the impact of their work. You will be a natural communicator with a flair for storytelling. You will be creative, confident and proactive, able to get stuck in and come up with exciting new ways of reaching our audiences.  You will be focused on quality and have a meticulous attention to detail and be driven to ensure all of your writing is something to be proud of.

In this role your focus will be on helping the Development team implement the new communications strategy. Our new strategy focuses on impact, and how strong communications will be instrumental in solving the biodiversity crisis. You will work across all areas of the strategy, including digital communications, social media, internal communications and media, providing support to the Development team as needed, as well as taking the lead on some areas of work.

We will provide you with the challenge of working on high profile conservation projects, where your work really makes a difference to the field of conservation in an area aligned to our strategic aims and broader global initiatives. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package.

WCMC attaches great importance to addressing safeguarding and ethical considerations in all activities carried out by its staff, including where partner organisations or individuals are part of the delivery of our work. This includes children and vulnerable adults in the community who may be vulnerable to abuse. WCMC act with integrity, are transparent and expect applicants to share the same values.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post where you can impress us with your communication and organisational skills, we want to hear from you. Please complete our application form and send it together with your CV and a short covering letter through the link below by Sunday 23rd of June 2019.

WCMC is a UK charity that promotes for public benefit the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources worldwide. We do this by collecting, storing, processing, analysing, interpreting and sharing data that increase our knowledge and understanding of biodiversity and the conservation of nature. Good data are the foundation of informed decision-making and we work with many partners to help them develop their knowledge and capacity to make good decisions. We collaborate with the United Nations Environment within the UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).
