The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) are currently looking for full-time (37 hours per week) Assistant Environmental Manager to join our vibrant Environment Office. This role is pivotal in the smooth running of the team, with the post holder managing the procurement of environmental equipment, assisting with Environmental Impact Assessments, doing the day to day management of the ISO14001 Environmental Management System and supporting the office such as by presenting environmental data and helping with the annual offload of Antarctic waste from the BAS ship. We are looking for an organised individual, with a flexible approach to their workload. Good communication and numerical skills are vital for this role. PurposeQualificationA degree in an environmental sciences subject (or similar). Associate IEMA membership (or similar) Duties- Manage the procurement of environmental equipment and consumables for BAS Antarctic Stations. Collaborate with colleagues to provide biosecurity kits for Cambridge, ships and logistics hubs. - Handle and present environmental data (such as waste stream analysis, environmental incident trends). - Assist with Environmental Impact Assessments. - Day to day management of ISO14001 EMS, e.g. undertake environmental audits at Cambridge and ships, and suppliers maintain/update EMS paperwork. Support the Environmental Manager though the implementation of the EMS standard. - Assist in the communication of environmental best practice, e.g. produce training posters, prepare manuals etc. - General support to the Environment Office, such as in the drafting/editing of reports and assisting with the annual offload of Antarctic waste from each ship. - Any other tasks, within the remit of the role, as identified by the Director Please quote reference: BAS 120/19 Closing date for receipt of application forms: 12 January 2020 Interviews are scheduled to be held: Week Commencing 27 January 2020 BAS is an Equal Opportunity employer.
