Scottish Natural Heritage is the leading public body responsible for advising Ministers on matters relating to the natural heritage. The natural environment
is a key asset that underpins Scotland's wealth, health and quality of life. Our job is to conserve this resource, to promote its sustainable management and to encourage people to access and enjoy it responsibly. Area Officer - £23,253 Fixed term until July 2011 with possibility of extention and/or permancy. A Scottish Distant Island Allowance is payable. (Ref: 061-030) You will implement and deliver a range of our functions within Orkney, as well as contributing to the work of the Northern Isles Area Team as a whole. This will have particular emphasis on marine and freshwater issues in Orkney, and some in Shetland. You must have a qualification, or relevant experience, in a environmental subject such as ecology, marine biology, geography, environmental management or planning. Experience in the application of national and European (Natura) environmental legislation, of working in partnership with land managers, public, private, voluntary and community organisations is essential. Strong communication and presentation skills and a full driving licence are also required. You will ideally also have good IT skills, especially using Word, Excel, email, PowerPoint and GIS systems, as well as a knowledge of terrestrial habitats, species and marine/freshwater environments in North Scotland. |
