Descriptif :
Post-doctoral position in the « Environmental Modelling and Decision » department at INERIS in charge of air quality modelling at regional and local scales. JOB DESCRIPTION : The position is open in the frame of the EC4MACS EU-LIFE and other INERIS projects related to air quality modelling. Clean air and climate change are central fields of EU environmental policy. New scientific findings demonstrate important interactions and potentially large economic synergies between air pollution control and greenhouse gas mitigation. Model analyses, based on latest scientific findings and validated data, can provide valuable information for cost-effective policy strategies. The European Commission envisages for 2012/13 a review and revisions of their air quality legislation and the European Climate Change Programme. The EC4MACS project brings together a consortium of institutions to build and maintain a network of well established modelling tools for a comprehensive integrated assessment of the policy effectiveness of emission control strategies for air pollutants and greenhouse gases (more at http://www.ec4macs.eu/home/index.html). The fellow will be in charge of high resolution simulations over several selected cities with the chemistry transport model CHIMERE : http://www.lmd.polytechnique.fr/chimere/ Downscaling methods will be investigated in order to calculate air pollutant concentrations in urban areas and hot spots (near by trafic and industries). The main goal is to establish a new set of methodologies to calculate the urban increment (or decrement) of PM10, PM2.5, NO2 and O3 concentrations over urbanized areas.
