Ducks Unlimited’s Great Plains Regional Office is seeking two Agronomists to promote winter cereals within the Prairie Pothole Region of North and South Dakota. Position Purpose: Agronomists will foster the planting of winter cereals using diversified crop rotations and no-till/minimum-till cropping systems by offering educational programs, research and demonstration trials and crop production (technical) assistance to growers, Conservation Districts, Extension Service, NRCS and private industry representatives. Primary Duties: - Plan, coordinate and conduct research and demonstration trials promoting winter cereals.
- Provide technical assistance on crop production, pest control and soils management.
- Identify, develop and coordinate the crop production, soils management, winter cereals management educational materials, meetings, tours, and other educational activities to address grower needs.
- Work cooperatively with, and provide assistance to, the Extension Service, state and federal cooperating agencies, private industry and others to promote the seeding of winter cereals.
- Compose articles for newsletters, ag publications and the general media promoting winter cereals.
- Interact with radio and television media to support development of news stories supporting the production of winter cereals.
Qualifications: - A bachelor’s degree (BS) in agronomy, soil science or a similar discipline corresponding to the responsibilities of the position. A master’s degree (MS) is preferred.
- A demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals, co-workers and groups of people. Excellent written and oral communications skills a must.
- Experience and commitment to enhancing skills related to needs assessment, planning, interdisciplinary program delivery, networking, coalition building and program evaluation.
- An ability to select appropriate teaching and delivery methods to address audience needs.
- Strong evidence of an ability to work as a team member.
- Skills in the use of computer and other electronic equipment.
- An ability to inspect fields by walking, conduct field demonstrations, provide their own transportation.
- A willingness to travel away from home and work in diverse weather conditions over extended hours.
- A positive attitude, strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities. A valid driver’s license is required.
