Role Purpose

This post primarily delivers agriculture related duties in North East Wales.

Specific duties will include but not limited to:

  • Cross-compliance inspections at farms
  • Pollution prevention and advice on farms
  • Intensive agriculture regulation including pig and poultry
  • Ensuring compliance with the agricultural regulations (Water Resources (Control of Agricultural Pollution) (Wales) Regulations 2021
  • Carry out investigations and enforcement for breaches of legislation
  • Providing advice on planning applications relating to farms
  • Work towards FACTS and BASIS qualification status
  • Carry out ground water permit inspections

Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) – our Organisations’ purpose - lies at the heart of everything we do. Everyone in NRW has a role to play in achieving SMNR and within that NRW’s role in ensuring ecosystems resilience underpins wider wellbeing in Wales.

The post holder will play a defined role to achieve sustainable management of natural resources SMNR through the delivery of the multi-functional team remit at place. Post holders will contribute specific technical expertise to the team in at least one of the following areas of work;

Environment Management work including incident management, regulation and compliance linked to Water Resources, Land or Water Quality. Implementation of regulatory and supporting partnership solutions and projects that deliver environmental outcomes on the ground, including Water Framework Directive.

Protected Sites Management. Direct regulation through assenting and consenting of activities, and securing effective pro-active management through advice, guidance and developing management agreements and partnerships.

Delivering either NRWs Biodiversity or Fisheries remit, strategy and priorities through provision of internal advice to other teams, functions or Directorates, as well as direct or partnership delivery of projects and mitigation schemes that protect or improve the environment."

 

Qualifications and Skills

  1. A good working knowledge of environment management, agriculture, fisheries, conservation or biodiversity, with focused experience in one of these distinct areas of the team remit.
  2. An understanding of how these multi-functional teams can contribute to the sustainable management of natural resources.
  3. Ensure continuing professional and personal development, expertise and competence through formal and informal learning and certification.
  4. Strong and effective self-management and organisational skills.  
  5. The ability to influence, negotiate and gain cooperation of others. Experience of dealing successfully with difficult people / situations is important.
  6. The ability to use specialised IT systems, such as GIS or NRcustomised applications.
  7. Able to work well as part of a team.
  8. Hold a current full UK valid licence to drive NRW fleet vehicles (cars and vans).
