Administrative Assistant to the President
The Marine Environmental Research Institute (MERI) is seeking a highly organized professional to fill the full-time position of Administrative Assistant to the President/CEO.
Located on the mid-Maine coast, the Marine Environmental Research Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to protecting ocean life and human health through scientific research, education and advocacy.
The organization is poised to expand its influence on marine and toxics policy on a national scale and the individual who fills this key position will be instrumental in assisting the President in the implementation of this strategy.
Job Summary Assists the President by providing administrative support for all aspects of her work. Serves as liaison for the President’s internal and external constituencies. Contacts include Board of Directors, staff, business, professional and environmental organizations’ staff and executives, and government staff.
Scope This position manages support and communication functions for the President.
Representative Duties • Manages the President's schedule; coordinates meetings, interviews, appointments, and travel arrangements • Serves as liaison for the President’s diverse constituencies • Monitors the universe of environmental news; briefs the President on developing trends and issues • Monitors President’s communications including email and phone calls • Develops background research for projects, media and/or development opportunities • Coordinates information for strategic communications, branding, and development • Edits speeches, press releases, presentations, and other documents as needed • Coordinates and updates the President’s presence on the website • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree with five years of professional experience is required. Applicants must possess excellent communications and research skills, written and oral; knowledge of organizational procedures, events management, and scheduling. High degree of computer literacy. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with a Mac platform. Must be familiar with the environmental science, law and/or policy fields. Knowledge of nonprofit management and development a plus.
