PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Action Campaigner is responsible for the planning, co-ordination and execution of non-violent direct actions which are an integral part of Greenpeace's overall campaign and media strategy. The Action Campaigner is also responsible for the maintenance of action equipment, training of activists and provision of logistical support for the organization.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Duties:
1.Overall responsibility for Direct Actions, from conception to execution.
2.Develop and maintain effective integration of actions with the strategy & planning of campaigns and with organizational development.
3.Responsibility for overseeing the warehouse and development, acquisition and maintenance of action equipments.
4.Maintain effective communication for actions related issues within Greenpeace International and other Greenpeace offices.

Detailed Duties:

1.Conduct Direct Actions

1)Provide strategic input to campaigns on how and when to use actions to achieve campaign goals;
2)Provide creative and workable action and activitiy scenarios when needed;
3)Research and investigate action plans for feasibility;
4)Oversee logistical preparation for actions;
5)Conduct legal and secuirty assessment for actions;
6)Provide action and safety trainings to staff and activists;
7)Execute professional quality actions in accordance with Greenpeace action protocol and security policy;
8)Expedite all aspects of ongoing action decisions;
9)Provide accurate evaluation for continued improvement of actions.

2.Build Action Capacity

1)Assist the manager in the development of Action Team and action capacity;
2)Develop and oversee action training for the entire organization and specialized training for Action Team;
3)Develop and uphold safety and secuirty standards for all aspects of actions.

3.Maintain Warehouse

1)Responsible for the development and maintenance of the warehouse;
2)Responsible for acquisition and maintenance of action equipments;
3)Ensure all safety and security standards are met in equipment maintenance.

4.Internal Communication

1)Effective participation in planning and development of Action Investigation Unit and campaigns;
2)Encourage integration and contribution of actions in achieving campaign goals;
3)Liaise with action and marine staff in Greenpeace International and other Greenpeace offices on action-related issues;
4)Act as Greenpeace China representative in liaison for all ship tours and operational requirements;
5)Participate in international and regional skill-share related to actions and ship use.

5.Budget:

Responsibility for actions budget and/or other budgets as agreed and allocated.

REQUIREMENTS:

1)With bachelor degree or above;
2)At least 3-year working experience, especially in creative industry, events organizing, public relation or relevant NGO experience;
3)Good organization and communication skills; good problem-solving, analysis and research skills;
4)Responsible and active working spirit; good team-work spirit;
5)Can work under pressure, changes and challenges;
6)Understand and support the idea of Greenpeace; dedication to environmental activism;
7)Good command of English and Chinese;
8)Good computer skills; familiar with office software;
9)Driving, diving and climbing skills are highly valued.

KNOWLEDGE

1.Knowledge of the overall goals and intent of Greenpeace (including policies, guidelines, programs, campaigns and project activities):  to lead campaign activities in support of the world's largest environmental protection group.
2.Knowledge of environment/ ecology issues in general:  to provide specialized campaign expertise; to promote environmental concerns.
3.Knowledge of the media including responsibilities, equipment, techniques, policies, practices, scope, audience, tactics, structure, impact:  to use the media to further campaign objectives; to increase awareness and gain public support; to communicate with relevant industry and government.
