The Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT), Scottish Natural Heritage, Forestry Commission Scotland and Scottish Rural Property and Business Association, with support from local squirrel groups across Scotland, are implementing Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels (SSRS), a major project to help conserve Scotland's red squirrel population.
The successful candidates will be employed by SWT and will carry out grey squirrel control to a targeted programme aimed at preventing grey squirrels from spreading from Aberdeen into rural Aberdeenshire to the detriment of red squirrels. The seasonal control officers will report to the SSRS City Grey Squirrel Control Officer North East.
One seasonal controller is required to assist the project's City Control Officer in the woodlands and parks of Aberdeen City.
A second seasonal controller to focus primarily in the South Deeside area between about Maryculter and Beannachar and down to Stonehaven.
Applicants will hold a vocational qualification in game and wildlife management, gamekeepering, countryside management or a related subject, and will demonstrate experience in a relevant field. A commitment to wildlife conservation and the ability to keep accurate records of both trap locations and catches are essential.
Proven experience of effective working with the public, private landowners, conservation agencies and volunteer groups along with good interpersonal skills are desirable, as is a familiarity with Aberdeen.
Current driving licence and own vehicle essential.
