Summary 

The Electrical Designer provides PV system design, interconnection support, construction support, and sub-consultant management services for SunPower's utility scale PV projects as part of the Electrical Engineering Group. The Electrical Engineering Group is responsible for the electrical balance of system designs for utility scale PV projects. These include PV array DC system, medium voltage collector system, high voltage substation, and transmission line designs. Candidates must demonstrate strong electrical design, communication, and creative problem solving skills, and have excellent AutoCAD skills. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

•Preparation of preliminary and detailed electrical designs for PV systems (DC, AC, MV, and HV systems) 
•Site layout, planning and design 
•Coordination with Sales Leads, Project Managers, and other project participants 
•Managing engineering consultants and coordinating with third party EPC firms on electrical system designs 
• Specifying equipment and components to address site-specific requirements and coordinating with third party vendors
•Creating and maintaining AutoCAD drawing packages 
•Creating Bills of Materials for projects 
•Assisting Salespeople and construction Project Managers with design related questions, responding to RFIs from the field 
•Site visits, including occasional domestic and international travel 
•Oversight and training of junior CAD Drafters and Designers

Education and Experience 

•A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology OR 
•An Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with a minimum 5 years experience in electrical designs. OR
•Licensed Master Electrician with a minimum of 10 years experience in electrical system designs and installations 

Qualifications 

•Candidates must be highly organized and capable of working on multiple projects 
•Knowledge of electrical design, materials and methods of installation, especially in power generation, is a plus 
•Strong design and engineering skills 
•Proficiency with AutoCAD and generating detailed construction drawings 
•Good communication skills
