Our Assets Team: The assets team is an integral part of the main South West Coastal Monitoring (SWCM) team, with a focus on running and delivering the Assets Programme. This programme involves identifying, digitising, and inspecting coastal assets in the South West which perform a crucial role protecting coastal communities against flood and erosion risks. The aim is to create a comprehensive database encompassing both manmade and natural coastal assets which serve a Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) role along the South West coastline of England. By summer 2024, we anticipate having a complete spatial representation of all assets in the region, facilitating effective risk management and decision-making amongst the FCERM community. SWCM will conduct and oversee routine asset inspections, prioritising assets based on risk and level of protection, with assets inspected at least once every four years. Training will be provided to ensure inspectors adhere to national standards set by the Environment Agency. Day-to-day activities within the Assets Programme involve managing the asset database, conducting field inspections, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with local authorities or contractors contributing to asset data collection.
